Chain link fencing

Chain link covers a lot of ground for very little money. It is not a privacy fence, but for containment, boundary marking and long runs it is hard to beat on cost.

Where chain link works well

Long garden boundaries backing onto open land, allotments, tennis courts and sports areas, school and nursery grounds, and industrial yards where visibility through the fence is useful.

It also works as a discreet containment layer behind a hedge, where you want animals contained but do not want to see a fence at all.

Getting the installation right

Chain link is only as good as its straining posts and line wires. Corner and straining posts need proper concrete footings and struts; without them the mesh sags within a season.

Frequently asked questions

Galvanised or plastic coated?
Plastic coated (usually green) is less visible against planting and resists corrosion well. Galvanised is the cheaper industrial option.
Can chain link be fitted to existing posts?
Sometimes, if the posts are sound and correctly spaced, but straining posts almost always need upgrading.
