Gate installation

Fitting a gate well is mostly about the posts. A gate hangs off a lever, and if the hanging post is not big enough and deep enough, the gate will drop no matter how good it is.

How we hang a gate

The hanging post is oversized relative to the fence posts and concreted deeper. The gate is hung to a level, with a consistent gap all round and enough clearance at the bottom to swing over rising ground. Latch and drop bolt positions are set with the gate in place, not measured beforehand.

Locking and access

Side gates usually want a lock accessible from both sides, or a bolt plus a padlock hasp. For driveway gates we fit drop bolts into ground sockets so the gates hold square when closed.

Frequently asked questions

Can you fit a gate into an existing fence?
Yes. We remove a bay, install a proper braced hanging post and make the gate to the resulting opening.
Do you fit automated gates?
PLACEHOLDER — confirm whether No1 Fencing offers gate automation. If not, we will remove this line and refer these enquiries out.
